Amazing Year

I can not believe that I am saying this, but the end of Paityn's 4th grade year is only days away.  I am sure that my being sentimental about the end of this year is definitely related to her 10th birthday that follows only days later, but that is a whole different post... literally.

The last year has been an amazing roller coaster as we went through the idea of and confirming diagnosis of ADD and figured out exactly what that meant for Paityn.  Trying to figure out what was the best way to handle it and having an amazing teacher who worked through all of it with us.  Paityn has always been a bright student, but by the end of the year last year, her teacher suggested that we talk to her doctor.  Paityn just felt like she was struggling.  When the time came for school to start this year she was asking for help.  She wanted so badly to be able to make her goal of the Honor Roll.  Well, after a year of challenges and learning, we have figured out what works best for her.  The roller coaster ride is never fun at the time, but we have learned that the end result is sometimes better then the ride.

Today I had the honor of attending the final awards assembly.  I love to see all the excitement that the kids show when their name is called.  For each award that is given, they call of the kids to the front... 2nd through 5th grade.  It is amazing to see the changes that happen in the kids through the years so visibly in front of you.  I had to chuckle today to see some of the 5th grade boys act annoyed that they were being called up front, while watching some of the girls glow with excitement.

I am very proud to say that Paityn walked away with two awards in her hands.  She was given an award for making the Honor Roll for the third Trimester and an award for making the Honor Roll for the whole year (her favorite).  YEAH!!!  GO PAITYN!  I can honestly say that today, as she received that award, I know that there is so much more behind the smile then just happiness.  She is proud of herself for making it to one of her first academic goals.  We discussed tonight that the challenges of the last year sure made today that much more special.

I have to add that not only did Paityn make the Honor Roll for all three trimesters, but we confirmed last week that she made it through the school year with all A's.  Another huge feat for her and one that she set as a goal at the end of last year.

I am ending this just saying that I am one proud Mommy and that I can't wait to see what my girl is going to achieve in the future.  She can do anything she sets her mind to.  She proved it this year for sure!!!

First Trimester
Second Trimester
She gave me the silly grin on purpose.  Someday she will learn that
I am ALWAYS going to be taking pictures.  Until then,
we will enjoy the moments.... even with the funny grins.
